How is a dental implant made and placed?
A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone to replace a tooth root. The process begins with a 3D CBCT scan and a digital scan of your teeth, which Dr. John Mady, DDS, FAGD, AFAAID, uses to plan the exact position, angle and depth of the implant. After the Hiossen implant is placed—under IV sedation if you choose—it fuses with the bone over a few months. A custom abutment is then designed to match your gum contour, and a zirconia or ceramic crown is milled by Glidewell Laboratories in California and attached to the implant.

Implant placement
The Hiossen titanium implant is placed under local anesthetic—with IV sedation if you choose—following the digital plan. Temporary teeth when needed.
Healing & custom abutment
Over a few months the implant fuses with bone. Then a custom abutment is designed from your scan to match your gum contour exactly.
The crown
Glidewell Laboratories mills a zirconia or ceramic crown, color-matched to your smile, and Dr. Mady attaches it. You leave with a tooth you can’t tell from the rest.

He earned his DDS at New York University, holds a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (a distinction fewer than 6% of dentists reach), is an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and is licensed in IV sedation in New Jersey.

What is a dental implant made of?
The implant itself is medical-grade titanium, which bone accepts and grows onto (osseointegration). The abutment—the connector—is titanium or zirconia, custom-made to fit your gum anatomy. The crown is zirconia or ceramic, color-matched to your teeth. We use Hiossen implants and Glidewell Laboratories restorations.
How long does the whole implant process take?
Typically three to six months from placement to final crown, most of which is healing time while the implant fuses with the bone. Same-day temporary teeth are available for many cases, including full-arch All-on-X.
Is the implant made in the office?
The titanium implant is manufactured by Hiossen. Planning, surgery and the digital scans happen in our Maywood office; the custom abutment and crown are fabricated by Glidewell Laboratories in Newport Beach, California, which shares digital images with us and ships overnight for a precise fit.
What is a custom abutment and why does it matter?
The abutment is the piece that connects the implant to the crown. A custom abutment is designed from your scan to follow the shape of your gums, so the crown emerges naturally and the tissue stays healthy. Stock abutments—used by some centers to save money—don’t fit your anatomy and irritate the gums.
Can I watch my own scan?
Yes. At your free consultation Dr. Mady reviews your 3D CBCT scan with you on screen, shows where the implant would go, and explains the plan and cost in writing.
